Whenever a student's Merit page is created for the first time, a "Welcome to Merit" email is sent to the student. This email contains a temporary password for students to use when signing into Merit for the first time.
When the student clicks on the link to view their Merit page or achievement, they will enter a customization workflow. Students will be automatically logged into Merit, and asked if they want to import information (bio, photos, work experience) from either Facebook or LinkedIn. It is best for a student to link these accounts at this point in the process, but can be done at any time.
Import from Facebook
Students will be prompted by Facebook to allow certain permissions to Merit. These requests allow Merit to use a student's listed biography, profile photo, job experience, and listed high school to populate these fields on their Merit Page, as well as allowing Facebook to auto-post achievements to their Facebook Profile. To allow these permissions, select Okay at each prompt.
Auto - posting from Facebook can be manipulated at any time without disconnecting Merit from Facebook.
Import from LinkedIn
Students will be prompted by LinkedIn to allow certain permissions to Merit. These requests allow Merit to use a student's listed biography, profile photo, and current job experience to populate these fields on their Merit Page, as well as allowing LinkedIn to auto-post achievements as a LinkedIn status. To allow these permissions, select Allow Access.
Auto - posting to LinkedIn can be manipulated at any time.
Changing a Temporary Password
After a student imports information from either Facebook or LinkedIn, the temporary password should be changed. By selecting My Account in the upper right hand corner, students will be prompted to change their password.
By following the link, the student can quickly select a new password to be associated with the account.
