Student privacy settings

Each student can manage the privacy settings for their individual account. These settings allow for varying levels of privacy.

The most common way to manage these levels is to
 view the privacy settings inside their account. At any time a student may log in, click on the Account link in top right, and then on Privacy.



There they will have the ability to do three things:

Make my Merit page searchable - If this option is disabled, the student's page will only be viewable with a direct link to the page. Their name will not appear on any school achievements or show up in searches.
 
Allow others to follow me - If this option is disabled, there will not be a "Follow" link on this student's Merit page and other will not receive alerts when the student earns an achievement. 

Opt Out - Clicking the "Opt out" link will remove the student and their achievements from Merit
and prevent future achievements about them from being created

Note: In addition to opting out from their account settings, students can also opt out by email. 
When you grant a student an achievement, they receive an email notification with a link to their personalized achievement. There is an opt-out link at the bottom of every email notification:


If ever a student is unable to log into their account or cannot find their privacy settings, you can opt them out manually from your school's Merit account. Learn how.

Once a student is opted-out, Merit will never send another achievement notification about that student again. Even if the student accidentally makes their way back onto one of your spreadsheets! Better still, you can always opt students back in.
