Questions from students

Last Updated: Dec 19, 2017 12:50PM EST
After you've first added students to Merit, you'll be able to send them a welcome email from your account. With it, you're able to introduce them to Merit so they can begin to customize their page.

Here are a few common student questions that could arise:
What is Merit?
Merit allows us to promote and share your accomplishments to a network that includes employers, local newspapers, high schools, your friends and family, and more. Updating a Merit page with your accomplishments—like making the Dean’s List, studying abroad, or landing an internship—builds your reputation and organizes all of your activity in one place.
Why are you using Merit?
We believe it’s important to promote your accomplishments because it’s a way to build your reputation as a scholar, show other people the value of your experience, and recognize your hard work and success.
Why would I want to maintain another online account?
The best part about Merit is that we’re updating your Merit page for you by adding accomplishments as they happen. That way, you have a verified record that you can use when writing your resume; one that you can share with employers. Whenever you choose, you can add your own updates to your Merit page to create a powerful, professional, positive online identity.
Does anyone care about the things you're adding to Merit?
Yes! Did you know that 75% of companies conduct online searches for all new applicants, and that 70% of employers have rejected applicants because of information they found online? Merit is just the “good stuff” and when employers search for you the Merit page will rank very highly in results. Plus, family and friends love to see and share the good things that you’re doing at school.

98% of the time, students, parents, and friends just "get it;" here's what that looks like:
