Media Monitoring Analytics

Your media monitoring analytics provide a summary of your online mentions and reputation. To view your media monitoring analytics, go to the Analytics section under the Mentions tab:

This will feature a graph and several cards with additional information about your keywords, sources and results. 

 

News Mentions by Date

The graph on this page displays the number times your media monitoring keywords have been found in the news over a chosen date range. Your account keywords (Merit University & Tri-State University) are listed below the graph. Click on any of your keywords to add or remove them from the graph.

Analytics Filters

The Media Monitoring Analytics page is interactive. As you add or remove filters the statistics on this page will change. 

Beneath your keywords, you can choose to filter your results by news source, category or date. Here's a description of the filtering options on this page:

  • News Sources - The media outlets that posted your mentions. Clicking on a news source will display the analytics for only that news source.
  • News Source Categories - The category or topic associated with the finding. Clicking on a category will display only results that match the selected media type (newspapers, radio, and television) or topic (sports, business, technology, etc.)
  • Date Range - The time period for your media monitoring results. Use the start and end date boxes to define your date range. 
  • Trashed Clips - If checked, your results will include findings that have since been deleted from your media mentions inbox
  • Sentiment - View only findings that were identified as positive, negative, neutral or mixed

Reach and Engagement

This card provides some information about how many impressions these findings have made:

  • Visitors - The total daily visitors (18M) to the news sources in your mentions 
  • Page Views - The total daily page views (860M) for these news sources
  • Facebook Shares - The estimated number of times (1.7k) that these mentions were shared on Facebook

Sentiment Analysis

Screen_Shot_2023-04-05_at_5.52.25_PM.pngThis graph shows the overall sentiment of your media mentions for the chosen date range and filters. Sentiment is determined by scanning the content of the story and assigning a tone based on the content: 

  • Positive - The overall tone of content is favorable
  • Negative -  The overall tone of content is negative
  • Mixed - The overall tone of content is mixed
  • Neutral - The overall tone of content is neutral

Note: Sentiment is automatically determined by a.i. but can be manually changed for each media mention if desired. Learn more about changing sentiment.

Ad Equivalency

Ad equivalency is a statistic that attempts to measure the value of the media coverage you have received, by determining your CPM (the cost an advertiser would pay per thousand impressions) for the mention. Here's a summary of the data in this card:

  • Websites - The web ad equivalency value ($1.61M): Calculated by multiplying your Web CPM value by the websites' estimated daily page views and then dividing by 1,000
  • Facebook - The Facebook ad equivalency value ($5.21k): Calculated by multiplying your Facebook CPM value by the estimated number of impressions and then dividing by 1,000

News Sources

Share of Voice vs. Peers

If your school takes advantage of Merit's peer monitoring you will see an additional card with a pie chart and graph. Peer monitoring allows you to monitor media mentions of other institutions that are important to you. The chart and graph compare the number of media mentions for your institution's to those of your peers.

Mentions Chart

This table shows you a list of all your media mentions for your chosen date range. Click the Download as CSV button to save all of these media mentions as a spreadsheet. Here's a list of the information that will appear in the spreadsheet:

  • Published - The date story was published online
  • Title - The title of story
  • Story URL - The URL of story
  • Facebook Shares - The number of times these mentions were shared on Facebook
  • Facebook AEV - The Facebook ad equivalency value for each story: Calculated by multiplying your Facebook CPM value by the estimated number of impressions and then dividing by 1,000 
  • Sentiment - The sentiment of the story
  • Source - The website the story appeared on
  • Source URL - The url of the online story
  • Source Categories - The type of media organization
  • Source Daily Visitors - The estimated amount of daily visitors to that news source's website
  • Source Daily Page Views - The estimated amount of daily page views for that news source's website
  • Web AEV - The web ad equivalency value for each story: Calculated by multiplying your Web CPM value by the websites' estimated daily page views and then dividing by 1,000
  • Keywords - The keywords responsible for finding that story 
  • Action - Action taken on the story (if applicable)
  • Action Details - Action taken on the story (if applicable)
