The Reports Tab

The Reports tab in Merit gives you visibility, insight, and analysis into your content creation, syndication, and performance, all in one simple-to-digest location. This page will provide additional details about information that appears on this tab.

Begin your review by selecting a date range for the information that will appear in the cards below. Use the two calendar boxes to determine a start and end date for the report, or select one of the pre-defined time frames:

On the ride side of your screen you will see some tools allowing your to easily share this information with your colleagues:

Here's a brief description of each item:

  • Share - Send a report for your selected date range to an email address of your choice. The email address you share your report with does not need to be a Merit account holder. 
  • Present - View a slideshow of each individual card on your Reports tab. This tool lets you present your results to other members of your team in person or online.
  • CSV - Download a CSV spreadsheet with data about each achievement published during the selected date range.

Cumulative Achievement Performance

The above card reflects your achievements' overall performance data for the selected date range. Here's a summary of stats on this card:

  • Achievements - The number of achievements (185) your institution has published through Merit
  • Students Recognized - The total number of students (2,619) you have recognized with achievements
  • Student Open Rate - The percentage of student notification emails (87%) opened by your students

Audiences

  • Parents - The total number of parents (2.2k) who received emails about your students' achievements 
  • Media - The total number of media outlets (1.2k) sent achievement press releases 
  • High Schools - The total number of high schools (756) notified about their alumni achievements 
  • Gov't Reps - The total number of government officials (3.1k) notified about your students' achievements 

Impressions

  • Page Views - The total number of page views (44,811) for your achievement summary pages and personalized student stories
  • Social Media - An estimate of the number of times (6.26M) your stories have been viewed across Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Learn more about Merit's social media algorithm. 

Engagement 

  • Student Updates - The number of changes (415) students made to their pages such as adding photos and videos, updating work history, resumes, and more. 
  • Social Actions - The total number of social media shares, likes, comments, and reactions  (23.1k) stemming from your achievements
  • High School Comments - The number of congratulatory comments (15) sent by high schools to their alumni
  • Gov’t Comments - The total number of congratulatory comments (144) sent by government representatives to your students

Media Monitoring

The above card reflects media monitoring performance data for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • News Mentions - The total number of news mentions (1,449) discovered across the web by Merit 
  • Ad Equivalency - The estimated value of media coverage ($57M) compared to the cost that it would take to advertise on those websites or platforms. Web Ad Equivalency Value (AEV) is calculated using your Web CPM value and and each website's daily page views. Learn how to customize your institution's CPM.
  • Potential Reach - The estimated number of visitors (30B) to the news sources where your mentions were discovered
  • Social Shares - Estimated number of Facebook shares (27k) for the articles detected with mention of your keywords 

The graph shows the overall sentiment of your media mentions for the chosen date range. Sentiment is determined by scanning the content of the story and assigning a tone based on the content: 

  • Positive - The overall tone of content is favorable
  • Negative -  The overall tone of content is negative
  • Mixed - The overall tone of content is mixed
  • Neutral - The overall tone of content is neutral

The column on the right displays some additional statistics:

  • The number of unique news sources (694) where your online mentions were discovered
  • The number of stories discovered with positive (39) and negative (8) sentiment

Newsroom

The above card reflects Newsroom press release performance for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Press Releases - The total number of times (220) your institution published Newsroom press releases
  • Emails - The total number of press release emails (12,911) delivered to media outlets (and contacts) through Newsroom 
  • Open Rate - The percentage of recipients (52%) who opened your Newsroom press release emails
  • Click to Open Rate - The percent of recipients (25%) who clicked links in your press release emails as related to the total number who opened it

The Top Press Releases by Open Rate list displays your three press releases with the highest open rates for the chosen date range.  

The column on the right displays your press releases performance against the average open rate (34%) for press releases sent to the media by email.

Achievements

The above card reflects the performance of your chosen achievement categories during the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Achievements - The number of times (185) your institution published Merit achievements
  • Categories - The number of unique categories (19) used across these achievements 

The Top Categories list displays the most commonly used categories chosen by your institution for the defined date range. 

The column on the right displays the total number of students (2,619) who had achievements added to their Merit pages and the total number of achievements (4,332) added to these students' pages. Here you will also find the total number of certificates (2,184) issued with these categories and awarded to your students.

Emails

The above card reflects the performance of your achievement notification emails sent to students and parents for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Emails Sent - The total number of emails (8,719) sent to students and parents

This number will then be broken down to display statistics for students and parents individually. For each group you will see the following data:

  • Emails Sent - The total number of emails (4,332) sent to each audience
  • Open Rate - The percentage of recipients (87%) who opened achievement emails
  • Click to Open Rate - The percent of recipients (46%) who clicked links in your achievement emails as related to the total number who opened it

The column on the right displays the benchmark click-to-open rate in the education sector (2%) and your performance against this industry standard (30x).

Page Views

The above card reflects the performance of your online achievements for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Page Views - The total number of page views (44,811) for your achievement summary pages and personalized student stories

The Top Referring Sites graph displays the sites that drove the most page views to your student achievements. Hover over a colored section to see the quantity and percent of traffic represented by source. Merit identifies the top 5 traffic sources and groups all other traffic as other. 

A few things to note about traffic sources:

  • Direct = Page views that have no referral. They generally represent a recipient clicking a link in an achievement email or pasting a link into their web browser
  • Meritpages.com = Page views from high schools, government representatives, and the media

Certificates

The above card reflects the performance of your certificates during the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

The total number of certificates (2,184) awarded to your students and the total number of achievements (8) and categories (3) that took advantage of Merit's certificate feature.  

The Certificate Engagement chart displays a timeframe of your use of certificates. 

The column on the right displays some additional statistics:

  • Unique Students - The total number of students who earned certificates in Merit
  • Category - The category (President's List) that generated the most certificates during this time period and the percentage of certificates it represents (66.76%)
  • Engagements - The achievement category (President's List) that resulted in the highest number of views/shares/prints per student (1.08)

Media

The above card reflects the performance of your achievements with the media for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Media Outlets - The total number of media outlets (1,202) you sent student achievements to
  • Press Releases - The total number of press releases (5,331) sent to these media outlets
  • Postal Codes - The total number of postal codes (20,166) covered by these media outlets 

The interactive map displays the quantity of press released distributed to each US state. The darker the color the higher the number of press releases the selected area received. Hover over each state to see the specific quantity of press releases sent.

Government

The above card reflects the performance of your achievements with government representatives for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Government Representatives - The total number of government officials (3,077) who were notified about student achievements at your institution
  • States - The total number of states and US territories (44) represented by these government representatives
  • Comments - The total number of times (144) government officials congratulated one or more of your students 

Here you will see a snapshot of a government comment sent to a student. These comments are sent privately to your students via email. Learn how to view these comments inside your account.  

The column on the right displays that state (New York) whose government officials received the most achievement notifications from you (253).

High Schools

The above card reflects the performance of your achievements with high schools for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • High Schools - The number of high schools (756) that received alumni notifications for your students
  • Notifications - The total number of notifications (7,930) sent to these high schools about your students
  • Comments - The number of times (15) a high school recipient congratulated one or more of your students 

Here you will see a snapshot of a high school comment sent to a student. These comments are sent privately to your students via email. Learn how to view these comments inside your account.  

The column on the right displays the number of states (42) your high school notifications reached.

Student Engagement

The above card reflects your students' engagement with their Merit pages for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Students Recognized - The number of students (2,619) you have recognized with achievements
  • Photos - Total number of students (138) who added profile photos to their Merit page
  • Activities - The total number of activities and clubs (250) that students have added to their Merit pages
  • Jobs - The total number of jobs (26) students have added to their Merit pages 

The Student Actions graph displays a timeframe of your students' interactions with their Merit pages. 

The column to the right shows a summary of Merit profile activity during the selected date range. It highlights:

  • The total number of students added to Merit (3,153) during this period 
  • The total number of students (696) who logged into Merit for the first time during this period
  • The total number of Merit pages (13,071) created since joining Merit 
  • The total number of students (43) who have opted out of Merit and the percentage these opt-outs represent (0.33%)

Stories

The above card reflects the performance of your achievements on social media for the selected date range. Here's a summary of the stats on this card:

  • Social Media Impressions - An estimate of the number of times (6.24M) that your stories have been viewed across Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Learn more about Merit's social media algorithm. 
  • Actions - The cumulative number of actions taken (23k); including likes, comments, shares, reactions, and tweets
  • Facebook - The estimated number of Facebook actions taken (22.9k); including shares, likes, comments, and reactions
  • LinkedIn - The number of times (56) your achievements were shared on LinkedIn
  • Twitter - The number of times (33) links to your achievements were included in a tweet

Here you will see a snapshot of a shared social media comment.

By the Numbers

This section includes details about the performance of each achievement you published during the chosen time period. Here you will see the following:

  • A clickable link to the achievement's engagement report
  • The user who published the story 
  • The date the achievement was published
  • The number of students in the story
  • The open and click rates for both students and parents
  • News stories WHAT IS THIS?
  • The number of media outlets and government officials who received your achievements
  • The total number of page views and actions (likes, comments, shares, reactions, and tweets)

At the bottom of the section, you will see a Download button which will allow you save this list as a .CSV file. The CSV will include all of the individual achievement data that appears on the By the Numbers card.
