Here you will find step-by-step instructions for importing students into Merit.
To get started, click on the Student Import button under the Tasks section on your Merit dashboard or on the Imports section under the Students tab:

Click the Browse button to locate and upload your file of students:
Please note that spreadsheets must be saved as either an .xls, .xlsx, or .csv file.
When the upload is complete, you will see your spreadsheet displayed below:
You will then want to begin mapping the student values that will be saved inside Merit:
Note: First names, last names, emails, hometowns, and zip codes are all required.
Please note that we recommend welcoming your students to Merit through your student import; therefore the rest of this guide will include instructions for emailing students. If you choose to skip these welcome emails, the steps/buttons may vary slightly from what you see here.
The send welcome emails to students box will be checked by default, but you can uncheck it if you do not wish to send notifications to all of your students at this time:
Your institution's saved welcome email will appear here, but you can customize this message:
Note: You will see {{name}} in the body of your email. This text acts as a placeholder for the student's first name. Do not alter the formatting for this field.
After reviewing your welcome emails to students, click the Preview Welcome Email button:
This will validate the records in your spreadsheet and alert you to any errors. Click here to learn how to fix validation errors.
You will then see a sample of your welcome email to students. Click Go Back to make changes or Looks Good to begin importing your students:

Merit will temporarily save your student import inside your account. If you're unable to finish the process in one sitting, you can return to the student import workflow at a later time to pick up where you left off.
