Opting a student out will remove the student and their achievements from Merit. Their Merit page will be taken down, and you will not be able to publish stories about them in the future.
How Students Opt Out
Students will have the opportunity to opt out of Merit at any time. They can opt out in multiple ways:
First, every email that they receive from Merit will contain an opt out link in the footer:
Alternatively, after logging in, students can opt out using the Privacy tab inside their account:
How to Opt Out Your Students
While students can opt out on their own, you can also manually opt a student out of Merit if needed. To do so, go to the Students tab and use the Search box to locate the student. Then click the Opt Out link on their card:
The student's page and all of their achievements will no longer appear online. Anyone visiting their page will see a 410 error message. Additionally, Merit will prevent any future achievements about the student from going out.
You will still be able to locate the student inside your Merit account. However, their profile will be tagged as Opted Out:
