Students have multiple privacy options available inside their Merit accounts. After logging in, they can go to the Privacy section to adjust these settings:
Here's a brief description of the various privacy options available to students:
Make My Merit Page Searchable
When checked, this option allows the student to be found through searches on Merit and search engines (like Google).
If unchecked, the student's page and achievements will be private and only accessible through direct links. These direct links will only be shared with the student and their parents through achievement notification emails.
Students who have private pages will still be included in press releases sent to local media. However, their name will not appear in the online version of the achievement. In place of their full name, Merit will use their first name and last initial. Their page/achievement cannot be viewed by clicking on their card:
Note: Students and their parents can share the direct links to the achievement with their family and friends on social media.
Allow Others to Follow Me
When checked, this option will allow other Merit users to follow the successes of this student. If this option is unchecked, the option to follow this student will be disabled.
Email subscriptions
When checked, the student will receive occasional emails from Merit when new features are introduced. If disabled, Merit will only contact the student when content is added to the Merit page on their behalf.
Family and Friends' Emails
Students have the ability to control which family members and friends receive email notifications when achievements are added to their Merit page. They can use this box to alter the email addresses associated with their account and uncheck the Allow my college to edit these emails button to prevent their school from adding more emails to their list:
Opt Out
Opting out will remove the student and their achievements from Merit. Their Merit page will be taken down, and you will not be able to publish stories about them in the future.
