As an opt in institution, when you publish an achievement, there will be a three-day delay before the story is distributed to your chosen audiences. This delay allows the students who are part of this story to choose to either opt in or opt out of Merit.
The path will be different for each student depending on their opt in status:
Opted In Students
Any student who has already opted in to Merit will be able to sign into their account, view their achievement immediately, and share their story on social media. They will receive a standard achievement email directing them to their story on Merit:
Non-Opted-Out Students
If a student has not yet opted in or out of Merit, they will receive an achievement email that looks identical to the one above. However, when the student clicks a link in this email they will receive an opt in permission email prompting them to either opt in to Merit or not participate:
Here's what happens if the student chooses each option:
Opt in: The student will be added to Merit and can immediately sign into their account, view and share their achievement, customize their page, and manage their account settings. They will receive regular achievement notification emails moving forward, and their achievements will be shared with all of your chosen audiences.
Do not participate: The student will be opted out of Merit immediately. They will not appear in this achievement or any future achievements. They will not receive any further requests to opt into Merit.
No action: If the student does not respond by choosing either option, they will not be included in this achievement. However, until they make a decision, they will receive this opt-in permission email each time they attempt to view an achievement. Merit will save this achievement to their profile in case they opt in in the future.
Published Achievements
After three days, your achievement will be sent to all of the audiences you selected. Only students who have opted into Merit at that time will be included in the achievement. Any students who opt in to Merit at a later time will be added to the online version of your story and see their achievement on their Merit page. However, any media, high schools, or government officials who received the story will not receive an update.
