Adding Class Years and Classifications

Students' class years and classifications frequently appear in Merit achievements as a way to differentiate your students from one another and personalize their online stories. This page provides some tips and tricks for including them in your Merit achievements.

Class Years

Students' class years can be added to achievements in multiple ways. To do this, you will need a column for their [Class Year] in your spreadsheet. Here are a few options for adding them.

  • [John] [Smith], of [Albany], a member of the class of [2026], was named to the Dean's List.
  • [John] [Smith], of [Albany], class of ['26], was named to the Dean's List.
  • [John] [Smith] ['26], of [Albany], was named to the Dean's List.

Classifications

Alternately, instead of students' class years, you can insert their classifications (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) into your story where needed. To do this, you will need a column for their [Classification] in your spreadsheet. Here are a few options for adding them.

  • [John] [Smith], a [senior] from [Albany], was named to the Merit University Dean's List.
  • [John] [Smith], of [Albany], a [senior] at Merit University, was named to the Dean's List.
  • Merit University [senior] [John] [Smith], of [Albany], was named to the Dean's List.
  • Merit University [senior] and [Albany] resident [John] [Smith] was named to the Dean's List.
