Landing Pages

Landing pages allow you to overlay your achievements and Newsroom press releases on your institution's website.

Adding a New Landing Page

To add a landing page, go to the Landing Pages section under the Settings tab inside your account and click the New Landing Page link in the right-hand corner of the screen:

You will then give your landing page a name, enter the URL of the page you wish to use and choose your preferred method of overlaying the page:

Your website may support either iframes or Javascript:

iframe
For this option, you must ensure that the website on which you wish to overlay your stories allows iframes. There is no other setup required. If your landing page does not allow iframes, then you (or a member of your team) must either enable iframes on your site or use Javascript instead.

Javascript
For this option, you must ensure that the following Javascript code is present in the <head> section of your landing page:

  <script src="https://api.meritpages.com/merit.js"></script>

Note: If you need assistance with adding a landing page or requesting one from your IT team, please contact Merit at help@meritpages.com.

Troubleshooting Landing Pages

Along the way, you may encounter a few errors while setting up or using Merit's landing pages. Here are some tips for troubleshooting the most common errors.

Page Does Not Allow iframes

The most common error you may see while using landing pages is that the page you are using does not support iframes. When this happens, you'll see the following message:

This simply means that you cannot use the iframe method to host Merit stories on your website. Instead, you must have a member of your team add the line of Javascript code to your website.

Invalid Landing Pages

Once your landing pages are active, Merit will regularly check on their status. If it detects that any of your landing pages have become invalid, you will receive an email notification letting you know.

In most cases, pages become invalid after changes are made to your website. Alternatively, your website may have had a temporary disruption in service.

If your landing page becomes invalid, your first step should be to click the Verify button to see if the issue has resolved itself over time:

If your page remains invalid after verification, here's what to do:

iframes - If you are seeing an error and your landing pages were previously configured to use iframes, then your website changed to no longer allow iframes. To allow Merit content to appear on your site again, you will need to either authorize iframes on your website or switch to Javascript.

Javascript - If you see an error and your landing pages were previously configured to use Javascript, then your website changed, and the necessary line of Javascript code was accidentally removed. To fix this, a member of your team will want to re-add the line of code to your website's header.

Deleting a landing page

You may delete a landing page if necessary. If you delete a landing page, all links to that story will redirect to Merit's default landing page on meritpages.com. To delete a page, click the trash can icon next to the page:
