Can I Share Stories About Alumni?

You can publish stories about your alumni much the same as you can about your students. Merit will identify any student who has previously earned a graduation badge as an alumni. Learn more about what happens when students graduate.

When sharing alumni stories you will have options:

Achievements

To share a story about a group of alumni, you can publish a standard Merit achievement and use placeholders to personalize their stories. These achievements will be identical to your typical Merit student achievements. The stories will only be sent to your alumni's hometowns.

Any alumni who are part of the story will receive an email alert directing them to the story on their Merit page. These emails will be identical to the alerts sent to your enrolled students. The only noticeable difference will be that some of the text on their Merit page (like majors) will be in past tense:

Newsroom Press Releases

If you're publishing a story about one (or a select few) alumni, you can use Newsroom to distribute a local press release about them. This will allow you create a text-only story with as much detail as you need.

The press releases you send through Newsroom won't be added to your alumni Merit pages. However, your Newsroom press release can be sent to both the media local to your institution and the media covering your alumni's hometown. To get the most accurate list possible, we recommend creating a custom distribution list before publishing your story. Alternatively, you can choose to add the media local to both the alumni and your school while publishing.

The press releases you send through Newsroom won't be added to your alumni Merit pages, so if you wish to alert them about your story you'll want to either add them as a personal contact to your distribution list or as an email CC when sending by geography.
