Merit for Faculty: First Steps

Merit Faculty accounts are very similar to institutional Merit accounts. You will want to configure some settings inside your faculty account before importing your faculty or publishing your first press releases. 

Here are some things you will want to do when getting started with Merit for faculty:

Brand Your Merit Page

Your Merit Faculty account and faculty directory will have a different home page than your existing Merit page. You will want to add branded elements to this page, much the same as your institutional page. Add photos, a bio, and social links to your faculty page. Learn how to brand your Merit page.

Customize Your Welcome Email 

Much the same as students, your faculty members' first interaction with Merit will be their welcome email. These emails will introduce your faculty members to Merit and encourage them to update their profiles. Merit will provide you with a default welcome email for your faculty that looks like this:

 

Hi {{name}}, welcome to Merit!

Merit University is using Merit to recognize and share your accomplishments. Whenever Merit University publishes a news story that mentions you, you will be notified via email and the story will be added to your Merit page. You can also update your Merit page with a photo, bio, work experience and more by clicking the link below to sign into your Merit page.

 

You can craft a special message for your faculty members if you'd like. Learn more about customizing welcome emails in Merit.

Your faculty members will receive these welcome emails when you perform your first faculty import. Learn more about importing your faculty.

Set Up Faculty Whitelabeling

When welcoming your faculty to Merit you will likely want these emails to come from a campus email address. To make this happen, you should activate whitelabeling inside your faculty account.

If you already have whitelabeling activated in your primary institutional Merit account, the set up will not require any work on the part of your IT team. You will simply need to enter your domain on the Email Settings tab. Learn more about setting up whitelabeling.

Configure Your From and Reply-To Addresses

When welcoming your faculty to Merit, you'll want the emails to come from an address of your choice. You can choose the email address that your emails to faculty will originate from, and also the address that their direct responses will go to.
